Gioacchino Rossini
«Il Barbiere di Siviglia»
comic opera in 2 acts
libretto by Cesare Strebini
based on the comedy of the same name by Pierre Beaumarchais
«Il Barbiere di Siviglia» by Gioacchino Rossini is a vibrant comedy opera based on the play of the same name by the French playwright Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais. The work captivates with wit, unexpected plot twists, virtuosic vocal parts inherent in the traditional style of Italian opera.
Rossini wrote an opera in less than twenty days. The original author's name of the opera was «Almaviva, or Vain Precaution», since the plot of the Beaumarchais play by this time had already laid the foundation for a number of operas.
The opera premiered in Rome on February 20, 1816.
Despite the scandal surrounding the premiere, the opera «Il Barbiere di Siviglia»
was a stunning success. The audience praised the work and even organized a triumphal torchlight procession to Rossini's house.
In Abay State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, the opera was staged in 1972 by People's Artist of the USSR Ermek Serkebaev. The Figaro party brought Yermek Serkebaev wide fame.
In 2018, the production received new colors and the original stage decision of the production group: conductor Vittorio Parisi, familiar to the Almaty public in the production of the opera «Rigoletto», directed by Christine Hukke and artist Patricio Perez. The opera will sound in the original edition, in which maestro Parisi opened to the audience previously unexecuted scenes.
