"Madame Butterfly" by John Luther Long

The opera Madame Butterfly, composer Giacomo Puccini, is an immortal masterpiece of Italian opera of the early 20th century. Cio-Cio-San is the second name and at the same time the name of the main character. However, it is "Madame Butterfly" that most accurately describes the main plot conflict of the work. Butterfly translates as "butterfly" or "moth". The traditional Japanese attire - the kimono worn by the young Chio-Chio-San - looks like the light wings of a moth that flies towards the relentless fire of love.

The opera "Madame Butterfly" is a difficult drama of the protagonist, and is rightfully considered one of the most tragic operas in the world heritage. The story of the transformation of a naive girl into a mature, expressive woman, for whom the concepts of honor and pride are above her own life, unfolds before the audience. An incredible love story takes place in the small Japanese town of Nagasaki. Puccini's musical language is permeated with a magnificent combination of oriental intonations that go into the depths of Japanese folklore and the brilliant Italian bel canto, which reveals the beauty and expressiveness of the human voice. The opera "Madame Butterfly" has gone through a difficult path of audience recognition, becoming an example of a subtle intersection of cultures and traditions.
