G. Pergolesi

cantata "Stabat Mater"

The ARTE Gallery will feature the immortal composition of Giovani Pergolesi, the cantata for soloists and choir "Stabat Mater"

Stabat Mater dolorosa - "The mourning mother stood" - one of the medieval sequences (chants sung during the Catholic Mass after Hallelujah, before the reading of the Gospel).

Pergolesi worked on his "Stabat Mater" literally until the last days of his life. Not satisfied with what he had written, he made more and more amendments to the score, until death forced him to drop the pen from his hands.

But many centuries after the death of the composer, the cantata is performed in all corners of the earth, invariably touching the most delicate strings of the listeners' souls.

2. Aria: "Cujus animam gementem" / "A heart full of excitement"

3. Duet: "O quam tristis et afflicta" / "What a sorrow"

4. Aria: "Quae moerebat et dolebat" / "How I suffered, how I trembled"
