Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR Kenes Baktayev came to the Abay Opera and Ballet Theater in the period when on the stage were shining legends Roza Dzhamanova, Bibigul Tulegenova, Ermek Serkebayev, Muslim and Rishat Abdullin, Baigali Dosymzhanov, Nariman Karazhigitov . Large-scale productions were created which were included in the gold fund of the national classics and demonstrated a bright acting talent of Kenes Baktayev.

His talent for deep, sensitive penetration into the character was highly appreciated and noted by outstanding composers Gaziza Zhubanova, Erkegali Rahmadiyev, conductor Turgut Osmanov, partners on the stage. A beautiful vocal school, the radiant timbre of his strong voice, filigree technique conquered the audience. More than thirty years of working to the opera art Kenes Baktayev performed in the theater all the roles of the tenor repertoire of a characteristic and acute characteristic plan. Kenes Baktayev toured with the theater in Kazakhstan, Russia, Europe and Asia. Each of his appearance on the stage was accompanied by a stormy ovation.

He also performed as a chamber singer, recorded over 50 works of Kazakh, Russian and West European composers on radio and television, which included at the Golden Fund of Radio and Television of Kazakhstan.

The role of Shege in the opera "Kyz Zhibek" by E. Brusilovsky was one of the brightest in the repertoire of Kenes Baktayev. And this role he chose to perform in his jubilee performance.
